CHRISTMAS HORROR
by Neža Razbornik
This year the movie industry has been giving us a lot of horror films so that got me inspired to do an article about Christmas horror movies. Our generation for some reason loves horror, maybe it is because of the adrenaline or just seeing someone being scared for their life is something that attracts us to watching them.
If you are anything like me you are not a big fan of romance movies, all that lovey stuff gets annoying quite quickly, so this list isn’t about romance. No, this is about the 10 grossest, nastiest, and most fun Christmas horror movies.
So here are the very best Christmas horror movies. Ho. Freaking. Ho.
- Black x-mas (2006)
Getting stabbed by a unicorn head to the tune of carolers singing “Silent Night” is probably not how you want to spend Christmas Eve. This holiday killer kills its victims in a sorority house haunted by creepy phone calls, bodies end up in plastic wraps, and a killer’s voice alone is enough to freeze your blood. When an unidentified caller keeps harassing your entire sorority you should run, even if it is minus 10 degrees outside. Murders keep raging with one victim being dragged screaming by a hook, and another being suffocated to death by a plastic wrap and left next to the window. You will not sleep in peace after this one.
- The Children (2008)
A family comes together to celebrate Christmas, and things get complicatedwhen one of the children gets sick. Soon all of the kids in the house are infected, and the illness starts to cause problems that are more behavioural than physical. The infected kids come together and start taking out their parents, but because they’re just sweet little children, the parents reject the truth of what’s going on until they’re unable to save themselves. The children in this movie are so annoying, you’ll wish all of them to die, which makes this thriller really satisfying.
- Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010)
Rare Exports is a Finnish movie about a little boy named Pietari who discovers the real secret of Christmas: Santa’s real. He is a monster buried in the Korvatunturi mountains, and after his tomb is opened, children start disappearing and reindeer turn up killed. This movie is definitely bizarre and amazing at the same time.
- Krampus: The Christmas Devil (2016)
Jeremy, a local policeman who was taken as a child, is now searching for his kidnapper. When other children begin missing, Jeremy pieces together the truth and realizes that his childhood kidnapper could be Krampus, the brother of St. Nick, and a punisher of children. You should watch it if you love myths, crazy killers, mysteries etc.
- Better Watch Out (2017)
Better Watch Out combines so many of the Christmas horror it is rather funny, a bit creepy, and of course horrifying. It includes a plot you would not believe. At one point, a group of carolers sing in front of a house where a murder scene is just out of view. If you ever thought about babysitting, after this movie you will not go near kids again.
- Silent Night (2012)
A serial killer, dressed as Santa, is killing citizens in a small town that he has declared as being naughty on Christmas Eve. The police is looking for him. When one of police officers doesn’t show up for work and is found dead the next day Sheriff Cooper calls in Officer Audrey Bradimore, who was off that day, to work. She takes the investigation head on, as they try to stop this madman with an increasing body count.
- Santa’s Slay (2005)
It turns out that Santa Claus is not really the cuddly, harmless old fellow that we all know and love. In fact, he’s a devil, and the only thing that has been keeping his bad side on hold all this time is a bet he lost with an angel. Now, the bet has expired, and 1,000 years of good cheer will be replaced by Christmas fear. Local boy Nicholas, his girlfriend Mac and his crazy Grandfather are the only ones who know the truth about Santa and can save their town and the world.
- Gremlins (1984)
Miniature green monsters tear through the small town of Kingston Falls. Hijinks Ensue as a bank teller releases these hideous monsters after gaining a new pet and violating two of three rules: No water, no food after midnight, and no bright light. Hilarious destruction in town is something everyone has to watch.
- Christmas Evil (1980)
Widely recognized as the best of the Christmas horror efforts, Christmas Evil is the story of a boy who loves Christmas. He is scarred as a boy when he learns that Santa is not real. The rest of his life, the toy-maker tries to make the Christmas spirit a reality. He becomes obsessed with the behaviour of children and the quality of the toys he makes. Later on he just snaps which causes him to go on a killing spree to complete this dark comedic horror.
- Jack Frost (1997)
A serial killer is genetically mutated in a car wreck on the way to his execution. After which he becomes a murdering snowman on revenge for the sheriff who caught him. This movie is one of the oldies but still a classic that is well known to this day.
